The Netherlands (June 2006)

After my day in Brussels, I took the train up to Amsterdam ... it has quite the mix of history, art, and fun. Sights included the Anne Frank house, the Heineken Brewery tour, the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum as well as floating along many of the city's canals.

Belgium (June 2006)

On my way from Paris to Amsterdam, I stopped for a day in Brussels. A day was plenty to check out the sights, including the Grand Place, which is surrounded by guild houses, the city's Town Hall and the Breadhouse. And of course, I had my picture taken in front of my new friend, Manneken Pis.

France (June 2006)

I took the Eurostar from London to Paris to visit my high school friend Seth. This was my first time in Paris. Wow, what a city. Of course I had to hit the major sites, including a visit to the Arc de Triomphe where I posed for my picture with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

England (June 2006)

The summer of 2006 quickly became the summer of Ryan. I planned a last minute trip to Europe to visit friends. First stop: London, England. A night of drinking beer in pubs, watching World Cup, and eating Indian food with Asi. This picture was taken along the Kings Road in Chelsea.

The Bahamas (May 2006)

A year after the Costa Rica mishap, I took long weekend trip to Lyford Cay in the Bahamas to celebrate the nuptials of Alexandra & Larry (they met at my going away party when I left NY to move to SF). Obviously, I was reunited with my Goodyear hat. Good times were had by all ... Geoffy, Corny + Jenny, oh my ! I returned the golf cart and bon fires are NOT illegal on the beach.

Costa Rica (March 2005)

Katharine and I headed to Costa Rica for spring break in March. It was out first big trip together, and we were excited to head to an eco-lodge on the Oso Peninsula, and then to Zancudo to learn to surf. The trip was off to a great start, until we got to SFO to depart, and realized that I/we/she forgot the Goodyear hat ... despite having the hat FedEx'd to the hotel in San Jose, the hat and I missed each other and I did not get a picture ... but this is the plane that took us from San Jose to Drake Bay.

India (July 2004)

After less than 24 hours in Singapore, we were off to Mumbai & Bangalore. This picture was taken as we were leaving the hotel in Bangalore (another hotel I actually never slept in). Sometimes I just don't know what to do with my hands in a picture.

Singapore (July 2004)

From China, my boss and I took the red eye flight from Shanghai to Singapore. Always remember to check and make sure you have your airline tickets before you leave the hotel. Bronwyn H. was a great traveling companion as well and the 'author' of this shot outside the Ritz Carlton.

China (July 2004)

No sooner did I get back from Australia, I was back across the Pacific to Shanghai, China for OOW - Shanghai. Much like the trip to Melbourne, I was only here for a few days, but it is definitely a place I would like to spend more time visiting. I recommend a visit to Cloud 9, the 'tallest' bar in the world, located atop the Jin Mao tower. The Shanghai Grand Hyatt hotel is also located in the tower. Thanks to a kind local for taking the picture.

Australia (July 2004)

The summer of 2004 provided a chance to travel to Asia Pacific for the first time. For better or worse, the trips were all work related, but I can't complain. A quick 3-day jaunt to the land down under for Oracle Open World - Australia in Melbourne gave me both a new continent + a new country ... and I got to meet The Superjesus. Thanks to Fred S. for taking this deer-in-headlights picture along Yarra river.

United States (June 2004)

So, a picture in the GY hat in the USofA was an easy one, but given the location (in the pits @ Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA during the NASCAR race), I thought it was as good as any other US picture I could come up with. I had a great time with Frank P., a colleague of mine from Oracle, as we were guests of Rausch racing for the day. We had the chance to hang with the drivers in the trailers, meet the crew and then watch the race from the pits of the #16 National Guard car driven by Greg Biffle. I almost got rolled by a tire during a pit stop.

Chile (July 2003)

This is where it all began ... I went down to visit Ben in Santiago that summer while I was in the process of changing jobs and moving to the west coast. We hit the road with no particular plan ... we just hopped in that 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser and headed north into the desert. We ended up traveling about 2,500 miles through the Chilean desert over about 10 days. We had some nice adventures in addition to the flat tire which spawned the Goodyear hat bet ... camping at 12,000 ft. next to some geysers in the Andes mountains; a welcomed 'gringo' nite at the Holiday Inn Express in Antofagasta; seeing the Southern Cross for the first time; watching the water in the toilet swirl backwards; chasing down guanacos in the mountains.Posted by Picasa
